The Cock Road Gang

£8

Out of the chaos that resulted from the mere existence of living in what had been the Kingswood Forest came the Caines family, who over a period of around 110 years, together with their extended family formed the basis of “The Cock Road Gang”.  In this context the word gang should be used in its widest definition – there was no particular structure. Some committed crimes independently, some did it with others, it just depended upon the circumstances at the time. Undoubtedly they were rogues and undoubtedly they were involved in crime but they were not violent.  However they did have a bad press and this book tries to put the record straight. In particular to correct the stories and/or rumours that have arisen over the past 175 year, and to draw attention to the many miscarriages of Justice that occurred. Unfortunately if your name was Caines you were automatically guilty.

The Story of the Caines Family of Bitton and Oldland. Covering the period from 1727 to 1837.
