Bristol & Avon
Family History Society
Family history for the former county of Avon. Award winning journals, meetings open to all, and regular research sessions with helpful volunteers.
An index of Bristol municipal burial registers covering Greenbank cemetery (1871 – 1991) was published by BAFHS in 2014 and is available from our website either as a CD or by download.
The original aim of The War Graves Photographic Project was to photograph every war grave, individual memorial, Ministry of Defence grave, and family memorial of serving military personnel from WWI to the present day. However, due to its popularity they have now extended their remit to cover all nationalities and military conflicts and make these available within a searchable database.
If you are interested in receiving emails about the society and perhaps discussing its interests you can join the email listing for BAFHS.
Bristol & Avon Family History Society has received a ‘highly commended’ award for our website from the Federation of Family History Societies.
Formed in 1975, the Bristol & Avon Family History Society supports contact between members with regular meetings and a quarterly Journal. We assist members with problems encountered during research work. The society promotes and encourages the public study of family history, genealogy and associated interests. Like most other family history societies, BAFHS is run by enthusiastic volunteers.
